The man who doesn’t want to stop
Mark Witcher, our US Bioprocess Operations Subject Matter Expert, has been working in his field for more than 40 years, but he's not even thinking about retiring.
"I've been in the field of biotechnology since the very beginning, and my mission is still to innovate and move the industry forward,” Mark begins. “If you take good care of patients, good things will happen for everyone involved. The industry has a tremendous amount of momentum, and it really needs innovation and new ideas to bring its potential to life.”
Mark's job as an SME is to be the counterpart for Exyte's clients to get the factory they need. From a career spanning over four decades, he brings a wealth of experience in highly agile manufacturing and multi-purpose manufacturing facilities as well as risk analysis and management.
Different, because the state of knowledge is constantly evolving:
"Science is progressing at an incredible rate. mRNA vaccines, for example, were a research curiosity five years ago. And there are even more therapies out there that will require new types of facilities."
For Mark, Exyte is the perfect partner for the pharmaceutical industry. "My vision is an agile pharmaceutical factory that can adapt to new requirements in the shortest possible time. Exyte has the necessary puzzle pieces to build such a factory."
What keeps him motivated after all these years? There's a personal story:
"Once a woman told me at a luncheon that she was still alive because of a drug produced in a pharma facility that I had helped design and plan. To hear this gave me a good feeling which still stays with me."
