Getting quality right from the start

Getting quality right from the start
As a Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) Engineer at Exyte in Singapore, Eric Thant helps maintain quality throughout the entire project journey, from the first day of work to final handover. He joined Exyte in 2018, drawn by the opportunity to take on new challenges and contribute to demanding projects. Since then, he has supported projects in Singapore while continuing to develop his knowledge and professional qualifications.
His role brings him into close contact with clients, project teams, and subcontractors. Together, they work to ensure that requirements are met, issues are addressed early, and the finished work can be handed over to the client with confidence.
For Eric Thant, quality is not something that is checked only at the end of a project. It is part of his work every day. Inspections, meetings, audits, testing, and documentation all help the team get the details right and avoid problems that could lead to delays. “Quality and safety are important parts of Exyte’s work,” he says. “From the beginning of a project to the final handover, we work with our clients, teams, and subcontractors to protect the quality of the job.”
Quality through every stage
No two projects are the same, but Thant approaches each one with the same attention to quality. His responsibilities extend throughout the project journey, from early coordination and daily inspections to testing, auditing, documentation, and final handover. This means working closely with many different people. Each client, subcontractor, and project team brings different requirements and challenges. For him, the key is to maintain open communication and address each issue step by step rather than allowing small problems to grow.
A major semiconductor project in Singapore is particularly memorable to him. He supported the project from its early stages through handover, taking care of inspections, meetings, audits, and final documentation together with the wider team. And they even managed to complete the project three months earlier than planned. To recognize the achievement, the project team was invited to celebrate together at a hotel in Singapore. It was the first time he had received that kind of recognition in his career, making it a moment he still remembers with pride.
“It was a very special experience for me,” he says. “The whole team was recognized because we completed the work and handed the project over three months early. It remains one of the most memorable moments of my career.”
Learning from every project
For Eric Thant, maintaining quality also means being willing to learn when something does not go as expected. He values the lessons-learned approach used within project teams to discuss errors, understand what happened, and avoid repeating the same issue on future work. These discussions turn individual experiences into knowledge that can be shared across the team. With every project involving different people and challenges, he sees this exchange as an important part of improving the way work is delivered.
“Every project gives us a new experience,” he says. “When we find an error or a mistake, we discuss what happened and learn from it. We can then carry that knowledge into the next project.” This mindset is closely connected to his aim of getting the work right the first time. Proper preparation before inspections and testing can reduce repeated work, avoid unnecessary delays, and support an on-time handover to the client.
Building a career alongside the work
Eric’s own development has continued alongside the projects he supports. Since joining Exyte, he has taken part in regular trainings and expanded his specialist knowledge in quality assurance and quality control. He has also completed lead-auditor training, gained international certifications, and earned a master’s degree while working at the company.
The combination of training and hands-on project experience has helped him become more confident in his role and deepen his understanding of quality management. “Year after year I have become more professional and gained more project knowledge,” he says. “I completed further training and certifications, and I also earned my master’s degree while working at Exyte. That has been very important for my life and my career.”
His experience at Exyte has also introduced him to an international network. He has worked with colleagues from different countries and seen people move between Exyte teams in Singapore, Malaysia, Germany, and the United States. For him, these connections are part of what makes the company’s culture distinctive.
Bringing good people into the team
Eric does not keep his positive experience at Exyte to himself. Over the years, he has regularly recommended skilled people from his professional network for roles at the company. Some of the people he recommended were ultimately selected, he says.
He is careful about whom he recommends. Technical knowledge is important, but it is not the only thing he looks for. Experience matters, as does the way someone approaches their work and works with others. Above all, he wants to recommend people he believes will be a good addition to the project. “I recommend people who know what they’re doing and bring solid experience,” he says. “A good attitude is also important. For me, that is part of Exyte’s culture.”
For Eric, that culture is built through the everyday work of many people: checking details, sharing lessons, supporting one another, and taking responsibility for the final result. Quality may be his profession, but it is also the standard he brings to his own development and to the people he encourages to join Exyte.
