A workplace worth looking forward to
As a Senior Process Engineer at Exyte, Mohamad Issa works on modular and offsite cleanroom manufacturing as well as the development of new technologies. In his role, he explores new ideas that improve the way projects are delivered and help turn innovative concepts into practical solutions.
When Mohamad Issa talks about what makes him happy to come to work each day, he does not begin with technology. He talks about the people around him. “We see our colleagues more than we see our families, so it was very important for me to work with people I like,” he says. “I cannot thank our team enough for the support I have received since I joined.”
Originally from Lebanon, he studied mechanical engineering and gained his first practical experience during an internship focused on motor assembly and canopy design. After graduating, he moved into operations and logistics management before continuing his career in the Gulf region. Based mainly in the United Arab Emirates, he spent four years working in microtunneling and high-rise infrastructure.
Mohamad moved to Germany in 2023 and joined Exyte shortly afterwards. The company’s project portfolio first caught his attention, but it was during the interview process that he began to see Exyte as the right place for his future. “It was clear during the interview that Exyte was the right match for where I envisioned myself,” he recalls.
No typical working day
Today, Mohamad Issa is part of a team specializing in modular and offsite cleanroom manufacturing, alongside the research and development of new technologies. There is no typical day or week for him and his colleagues.
Their work can take them from preparing project proposals and discussing early project stages with clients to supporting the production, construction, and installation of modular cleanroom systems. On other days, they may be researching and testing new technologies or attending exhibitions to present their work and learn about the latest developments in the market.
That variety is one of the things Mohamad enjoys about his role. His work includes developing modular cleanroom concepts and working with digital twin and visualization tools. He is also involved in virtual and extended reality for Biopharma and Life Sciences facility planning and construction, as well as 3D site scanning and the integration of robotics and artificial intelligence into biopharma applications.
For him, however, even the most exciting technology depends on the people developing it. He values being part of a team where colleagues share their knowledge, support one another, and work together to turn new ideas into useful solutions. “The work environment and the atmosphere around me are what I enjoy most,” he says. “The people I work with and their expertise help me make better use of my own knowledge. Together, we can support the company’s progress as well as our own.”
Finding the fun in new ideas
One of the most rewarding parts of Mohamad Issa’s role is bringing a new idea to the table. It might solve a technical problem, improve a workflow, or offer a better way of carrying out a process. Not every idea works on the first attempt, but for him, that is part of the experience. “Seeing new ideas happen in practice is the most fun part,” he says. “Even if a test does not work out, it is still fun to improve it, test it again, and keep trying.”
One project that will always have a special place for him was a large biopharma project in the East of Germany. It was his first commercial project at Exyte and his introduction to the company’s wider project and construction teams. Being involved from the beginning gave him the chance to see how ExyCell, Exyte’s modular cleanroom solution for biopharma and life sciences moved from development into its first commercial application.
The project was memorable not only because of the technology involved. It also marked the beginning of the working relationships that have shaped Mohamad’s experience at Exyte.
Supported from the very beginning
Since joining Exyte, Mohamad Issa has moved from working with more conventional engineering applications to approaches that are constantly changing and often require new ways of thinking. He describes the experience as an “ever-developing learning curve,” with little room for a fixed comfort zone.
It has been a significant change, but not one he has had to manage alone. He is especially grateful to the colleagues and managers who helped him find his place in the team and continue to support him in his daily work.
“They have helped me immensely and have been there since the beginning,” he says. “They continue to be there day by day, both in the work we do and in our everyday interactions. That has brought great value to me, professionally and personally.”
This support becomes even more meaningful during demanding periods. Mohamad’s work can involve spending long stretches away from home, while projects bring technical challenges and pressure to deliver quickly. Having colleagues he genuinely likes and trusts makes those periods easier and helps maintain a positive atmosphere, even when the work is difficult.
For Mohamad, happiness at work is not something he takes lightly. Finding a place where he could be happy was an important part of choosing the next step in his career. Today, that happiness comes not only from the work itself, but also from seeing the people he enjoys working with every day. “I wake up and I am happy to be here. I am genuinely happy to come to work, whatever the day holds,” he says. “Even when there are extra challenges, I am happy to see the people I work with every day. That says it all.”
