The Siltronic semiconductor fab project, accounting for a total floor area of roughly 20 soccer fields, is a new greenfield manufacturing campus consisting of both a wafer and a crystal pulling fab, as well as related buildings like a Central Utility Building (CUB), administration offices, and other site support infrastructures. Exyte’s strong collaboration with Siltronic has led to a high level of project execution, resulting in achieving Ready-For-Equipment (RFE) milestones for both the wafer and crystal pulling fabs after only 18 and 22 months, in April and August 2023 respectively.   

“Exyte not only excelled at engineering and delivering facilities with a high level of advancement and complexity in a short timeframe, we also proved our readiness to overcome major challenges like the global pandemic and subsequent supply chain constraints during the project implementation,” says Jerry O’Sullivan, Exyte Senior Vice President Operations Southeast Asia. 

Resilience boost for global semiconductor supply chain 

According to Siltronic, the additional capacity will strengthen the global semiconductor supply chain by providing silicon wafers that are essential for chip makers’ production of semiconductor chips. The chips will be used in consumer electronics such as high-performance computing, wireless communication, automotive, smart phones and more. 

“Since the groundbreaking ceremony at the site back in October 2021, the dedication and efforts displayed by members from both our client and Exyte to realize this leading-edge campus have been nothing short of exceptional. I am proud of the project team, and they truly deserve this win,” adds O’Sullivan. 

The project obtained its final Temporary Occupation Permit (TOP) in February 2024 and is expected to receive its Certificate of Statutory Completion (CSC) by the end of May 2024.
